Leaders Can Share Business Coaching Skills with Employees

A business coach is there to offer important skills that make it easier to start and run a business. But how many of these skills are only beneficial to business owners? The vast majority can be used by anyone who is trying to increase their productivity, establish goals, and overcome setbacks. This is why I recommend that any business coaching client who is a business owner or manager take some of the skills they’ve learned in coaching and share them with employees. Instead of having one or two people at your organization who know how to utilize these important tools, the entire company can get on the same page and make faster progress towards achieving shared goals. Here are a few of the skills taught through coaching that both business owners and employees can use at work.

Clear Communication

Even if you are the most thoroughly communicative business owner, it only takes one tiny breakdown in communication for your managers and employees to potentially be led astray. Think of it like a game of “Telephone.” You may feel you have given the most clear and easy-to-understand directions to a manager, but that person then has to pass the information along to their team members. It will rarely be communicated perfectly all the way throughout the organization unless everyone is on the same page about how to communicate. Teach your employees about different communication styles and how they may or may not be helpful to the day-to-day operations of the company. Not everyone communicates in the exact same way, but you can certainly lay out clear expectations about what needs to be communicated. 

Setting and Pursuing Goals

Many of us have heard about the importance of setting goals. There are several ways to go about this, and some are more successful than others. You can bring the goal-setting tips you learn in your business coaching sessions to your employees to help them achieve their professional goals. Most employees are interested in advancing in their careers, which is beneficial to both the employee and the business owner. But in order to achieve that goal, the employee must be realistic about the steps they need to take to get there. When you understand the process of creating realistic goals and maintaining your progress, you can be more clear with your employees about what they need to do to make their own goals within the company a reality. 

Persistence

Many people struggle with a fear of failure, and that fear may extend into their workday. If your employees are holding themselves back because they fear rejection or failure, they may not be meeting their full potential. To increase productivity and efficiency within the company, it’s important to teach your employees that their persistence will pay off.
